New Era Baptist Church took off as an off shoot of Gospel Time Ministries (GTM), dated back to December 12, 1992 and led by Evangelist Owolabi Awolola. The focus of the Ministry (GTM) was to take the Gospel message to every place where there exists an open door in order to:

  1. Preach the salvation message
  2. Encourage deeper Christian living
  3. Prepare people for the second coming of our Lord
  4. Be actively involved in missionss

While in the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary as a student, the pioneer Pastor, Owolabi Awolola was expected to work in a Baptist Church in Ogbomoso as part of his supervised Ministry. During the process, an opportunity for Church planting came in early November, 1997. On December 10, 1997, Chief I. O. Davies (Areago) offered his unused automobile workshop at Apake to Gospel Time Ministries. After some days of prayers, the offer was accepted. The initial plan was to move GTM from the premises of the City Hotel Building, but the inspiration of building a new church became clearer. Consequently, seven days Gospel crusade meeting was held from December 28, 1997 to January 3, 1998. The next day, Sunday January 4, 1998, a new Church: New Era Baptist Church, Ogbomoso was born.. The Automobile Workshop ( opposite Ola – Iya supermarket, Apake ) became its first worship centre for one year. Evangelist Job A. Alabi of the Convenant of Peace Evangelistic Association is the man God used for its inauguration. He preached on ‘The Spinal Cord of the Church’, Matthew 28:17-20. The choice of name came through an inner conviction and divine guidance.
