TEXT: Hebrews 12:2

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

Christianity is a race and is being run by every Christian everyday and everywhere. The challenges with the Christian pilgrimage are awesome; they have the focuses of pulling us down and taking us away from the straight path we are called walk on. It’s all to make us lose the good rewards set before us.

We can however not receive the prize and reward of the race until we have run very well and finished strong. To this effect, we just have to run patiently to be able to note all the notables, following the rules of the game and being very careful and focused.

There have been heroes of faith who successfully faced the challenges we face today and ended well. You will equally finish strong in Jesus name. These heroes, the Bible call “Great cloud of witnesses”. We see them throughout the pages of the Bible- from Genesis, Abraham to Revelations- John at Patmos isles. The records and presence in our memories are enough testimonies for us. Beloved, we are not alone.

The testimonies are there and the challenges and distractions are equally there too. You ALSO like others have enough reasons “Great cloud of witnesses” to succeed and to keep you up. In spite of the challenges, these heroes of faith were never mindful of the countries from whence they came; they might have had the opportunity of going back and abandoning the tasks before them. They rather chose through faith to subdue kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire and even escaped the edge of the sword. Out of weakness they were made strong, waxed valiant in fight and turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

To this effect do all within your capabilities and in faith to-
1. Lay aside every weight – distraction, sin, hindrances, interferences that may prevent you from making it.

2. Remain focused and run steadily with all required patience the race that is set before you.

3. Complete the task ahead of you, not minding what you go through. You will make it in Jesus name.

The methodology: -
The only way and means of finishing well is by ”Looking unto Jesus”. It’s not philosophies, theology, education, experience, psychology, position, status, wealth or any of such things. It is one THING – Looking unto Jesus.
In every life situation, what you look at or focus on determines your destination or aftermath results. Really you can’t be looking outside of Jesus and get a right result from Him. As you go through the New Year it will be good you consider the following as guide posts for successful life.

Looking unto Jesus...
1. The Author and Finisher of our faith:
He knows our makeup; the ups and downs of our being. He equally knows where we are coming from and where we are heading to. As the Author, He knows our beginnings – He made us and He equally knows where He wants to take us if only we will follow Him closely. Let’s look unto Him for directions. Outside Him nothing works.
2. Our Perfect Example:
“Who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross...” Remember he put all things aside for Kingdom glory. It is only Jesus who has been endorsed by God and qualified to be looked unto and followed. “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well leased; hear ye him.” Matt.17:5, Jn.12:28. When the heavens opened unto Jesus at baptism and on the mount of transfiguration, it was to authenticate and confirm him. He is the only One we can look up to, follow and succeed in life and ministry.
3. The Power and wisdom of God:
It is from him we receive all needed revelations for our life and ministry through which people will certify that we are really the people of God. The wisdom and power we need in these perilous times can only be got in Jesus.
4. For miracles, signs and wonders:
He is the miracle worker who is always with us to help. There are no impossibilities with him. I assure you that your miracles are on the way to be received as you intently look unto him. Trust him for that and within this New Year I prophesy that the Lord will do something new.
5. For directions of life:
He says “I am the way, the truth and the life”. He led the children of Israel through the Red sea and the wilderness; he fought their battles for them and settled them in the Promised Land, why won’t he do the same for you? You shall not be lost in the crowd in Jesus name.
6. For grace, mercy and favour:
Our Lord is full of grace, truth, mercy and favour. Jn.1:14. The struggles people go through in our generation do not really worth it if we will allow the Lord to have control. Remember that Grace is God Riches At Christ Expense.
7. For peace and contentment: John 14:27.
Beloved, relax in the Lord and be at peace.
8. For divine connection: John 15:5.
Every kind of link you need can be gotten in him, wait on him.
9. The Ultimate Judge: The Bible says, he is“... set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
10. For answers to all life questions: Matt.11:28.
He has the solutions to every problem of life. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. In spite of all fears, I believe the year 2014 will be a very pleasant, glorious, blossoming, progressive, wonder-full year for all who will look unto Jesus.

Looking unto Jesus means-
 Allowing Him take full control
 Depending on Him for all that life gives
 Trusting Him for life itself
 Following every direction and instruction He gives
 Walking with Him in faith
 Forsaking all for his name sake
 And say “Just as I am without one plea; But that thou blood was shed for me, And that thou bid me come to thee, Oh! Lamb of God, I come!!!
